SEARCHING FOR A JOB IN LUXEMBOURG
Luxembourg is one of the
countries with the highest standard of living in the world. Headquarters of some
companies are being located there. Moreover, it is a country that offers high
salaries to candidates willing to work there. The fuel is cheaper than in other
Western European countries, plus the VAT for food is lower too (VAT was 3% in
2016, when I was living there). One aspect which must be considered when
applying for a role in Luxembourg is that rent prices are high. You usually must
pay one month’s rent plus commission (equal to one month’s rent) plus agency
fee (equal to one month’s rent) upon the signing of a renting contract. To make
costs bearable when starting a job in Luxembourg, you could either find accommodation
in a city close to the Luxembourgish border and commute during workdays or find
rent in a neighboring town or village, where rents are lower.
Luxembourgish companies require
more languages than other European firms (usually two or three languages, such
as English, French, Italian, German or Dutch). However, I do not want you to be
discouraged if you do not speak other foreign languages besides English, as you
might have the technical expertise needed for the role and you might get an
offer.
The recruitment process in
Luxembourg usually includes a final face-to-face interview, so that you can see
the office and meet the people with who you are going to work. Companies might
refund part or all travel costs.
Some recruitment agencies from
Luxembourg might ask you to create a candidate video, in which you pitch
yourself (e.g. FYTE). It is a lot of fun creating the video and it can be
easily shared with clients of the recruitment agencies, but you must make sure
that the lighting is proper, that there is no background noise and that you are
dressed according to the industry in which you are applying.
There are four main job portals
in Luxembourg:

You should start applying on jobs listed there and see how
the job search goes.
Job fairs are being organized in
Luxembourg a few times a year. Moovijob is one of the companies that organizes
job fairs. You can check the details about two upcoming job fairs below:

If you apply for a few weeks and
you are still jobless, you can ask recruitment agencies for support. Most of
the below recruitment agencies were used by me when searching for a role in
Luxemborg.

Do you know any other recruitment
agencies, for technical staff, for instance? Please share in the below
comments.
All in all, it is harder to find
a job in Luxembourg than in other European countries due to stricter requirements
(more languages, experience required in fiduciary sector, for instance). It is
worth trying, but please make sure that you have sufficient time for moving and
searching for accommodation.
